Authorship Criteria
1. Authorship Criteria
Khazanah: Journal of Islamic Education and Science recognizes authorship as an academic responsibility that reflects an individual's substantial intellectual contribution to a scholarly work. Authorship must be based on genuine contributions to the research and manuscript, and all listed authors must be able to take public responsibility for their respective contributions.
To qualify for authorship, each author must meet the following criteria:
-
Substantial scholarly contribution: The author has made a significant contribution to the conception or design of the study; the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; or the development of the theoretical framework and research methodology.
-
Manuscript preparation or critical revision: The author has participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
-
Final approval: The author has reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.
-
Accountability: The author agrees to be accountable for their own contributions and to cooperate in resolving questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, or ethical conduct of the research.
All four criteria should be fulfilled for an individual to be listed as an author. Individuals who have contributed to the work but do not meet all authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately, with their permission.
2. Author Contributions
All authors are required to disclose their respective contributions to the research and manuscript. The corresponding author must ensure that the contribution statement accurately represents the work performed by each author and that all listed authors have agreed to the statement.
Contributions may include, but are not limited to:
-
Conceptualization and development of research objectives.
-
Research methodology and study design.
-
Data collection and investigation.
-
Formal data analysis and interpretation.
-
Development of research instruments or software.
-
Provision of research resources.
-
Writing the original manuscript.
-
Review and editing of the manuscript.
-
Supervision and academic guidance.
-
Project administration and funding acquisition.
The journal encourages the use of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) where appropriate to describe individual contributions transparently.
Authors must not be included solely because of their institutional position, academic rank, seniority, supervisory role, or personal relationship with the researchers. Likewise, individuals who have made substantial contributions must not be excluded from authorship without a legitimate reason.
3. Corresponding Author Responsibilities
The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the editorial office throughout submission, peer review, revision, and publication.
The corresponding author is responsible for:
-
Ensuring that all authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
-
Confirming that all authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript and its final version.
-
Providing accurate author names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and contribution statements.
-
Ensuring that all authors agree on the order of authorship before submission.
-
Disclosing relevant conflicts of interest, funding sources, and ethical approvals where applicable.
-
Communicating editorial decisions and revision requests to all co-authors.
-
Ensuring that any proposed change in authorship is supported by the agreement of all authors concerned.
The designation of corresponding author does not automatically confer greater authorship credit than that of other authors.
4. Author Order
The order of authors must be determined collectively by the authors based on their respective scholarly contributions and the agreement of the research team.
The journal does not prescribe a universal ranking system for author order. Authors are responsible for agreeing on the order before submission and ensuring that the submitted information is accurate.
Any disagreement concerning authorship or author order should first be addressed by the authors and their affiliated institutions. The editorial office may request clarification or documentary evidence when necessary.
5. Changes in Authorship
Any request to add, remove, or reorder authors after manuscript submission must be submitted formally to the editorial office by the corresponding author, together with a clear explanation of the reasons for the proposed change.
The request must include:
-
The full names of the authors to be added, removed, or reordered.
-
The reason for the proposed change.
-
A revised author contribution statement.
-
Written confirmation from all existing authors and any individuals being added or removed that they agree to the proposed change.
The journal will not process changes in authorship without adequate justification and the agreement of all authors concerned. The editor may request additional evidence or consult the authors' institutions if a dispute arises.
Changes in authorship after acceptance or publication will be considered only in exceptional circumstances and will be subject to editorial review. If a correction to the published record is necessary, the journal will issue an appropriate correction notice in accordance with its publication ethics policy.
The journal will not independently determine the rightful authorship of a disputed manuscript. Unresolved disputes may be referred to the relevant institutions for investigation.
6. Guest, Gift, and Ghost Authorship
Khazanah: Journal of Islamic Education and Science does not permit guest, gift, or honorary authorship. Individuals must not be listed as authors solely because of their position, reputation, funding contribution, or supervisory authority if they do not meet the journal's authorship criteria.
Ghost authorship, including the omission of individuals who have made substantial qualifying contributions, is also prohibited.
Individuals who provide administrative assistance, routine technical support, language editing, or other contributions that do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged in the manuscript, provided that their permission has been obtained.
7. Use of Artificial Intelligence in Manuscript Preparation
Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical conduct of scholarly work.
Authors who use AI tools in preparing a manuscript must disclose their use in accordance with the journal's applicable AI policy. Human authors remain responsible for verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content, ensuring proper attribution, and avoiding plagiarism, fabricated references, or misleading research claims.
The use of AI tools does not replace the intellectual contribution required for authorship.
8. Editorial Assessment and Ethical Compliance
The editorial team may request clarification or supporting documentation concerning authorship, author contributions, or changes in authorship whenever questions arise.
If suspected authorship misconduct is identified, the journal will assess the matter in accordance with its publication ethics policy and applicable COPE guidance. Depending on the circumstances, the journal may suspend editorial processing, request an explanation, seek institutional guidance, reject a manuscript, or take appropriate corrective action after publication.
All authors are expected to cooperate with legitimate editorial inquiries concerning authorship and research integrity.
9. Author Declaration
By submitting a manuscript to Khazanah: Journal of Islamic Education and Science, the corresponding author confirms, on behalf of all authors, that:
-
All listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
-
All authors have approved the submitted manuscript and agreed to its submission.
-
The author order has been agreed upon by all authors.
-
The author contribution statement accurately reflects the work performed.
-
No qualifying contributor has been improperly excluded from authorship.
-
Any proposed changes in authorship will be disclosed and handled in accordance with the journal's policy.
These requirements are intended to promote transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity in scholarly publishing.
