Digital Archiving and Preservation

Al-Ibrah: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Keilmuan Islam is committed to preserving its published scholarly content and maintaining long-term access to its academic publications. The journal recognizes that digital preservation is essential to protecting the scholarly record, ensuring the continued availability of published articles, and supporting the dissemination of knowledge in Islamic education and related fields.

1. Digital Archiving

The journal uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform to manage its editorial and publication processes and to provide online access to published articles. Digital copies of published articles and their associated metadata are maintained through the journal's electronic publishing platform.

The journal aims to preserve essential publication information, including article titles, author names, abstracts, keywords, publication dates, volume and issue details, and DOI information where applicable. These records support the identification, retrieval, citation, and long-term accessibility of published research.

2. Long-Term Digital Preservation

The journal is committed to taking appropriate measures to protect its digital publications against accidental loss, technical failure, unauthorized modification, and other risks that may affect the availability or integrity of its content.

Digital preservation measures may include:

  1. Maintaining digital copies of published articles and associated publication metadata.

  2. Conducting regular backups of journal content and relevant database information.

  3. Storing backup copies separately from the primary hosting environment, where technically feasible.

  4. Periodically checking the integrity and accessibility of archived files.

  5. Maintaining appropriate technical and administrative procedures for restoring journal content in the event of data loss or system failure.

  6. Preserving stable article URLs and DOI links, where applicable and technically supported.

The implementation of these measures depends on the journal's available technical infrastructure, hosting arrangements, and preservation services.

3. Preservation Formats and Accessibility

The journal aims to maintain published articles in durable and widely accessible digital formats, including PDF files. Where feasible, the journal may retain additional source files and publication metadata to support future migration, recovery, and preservation activities.

The journal will make reasonable efforts to ensure that published articles remain accessible to readers through its official website. If technical changes, platform migration, or hosting problems affect access, the journal will seek appropriate measures to restore access and preserve the continuity of its scholarly record.

4. Participation in Digital Preservation Services

Where available and formally activated, the journal may participate in recognized digital preservation services, such as the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, or other suitable repositories and preservation systems.

Participation in any such service will be identified transparently on the journal's website once the relevant service has been activated and its operation has been verified. The journal will not claim participation in a preservation network or repository unless such participation can be confirmed.

5. Access to Archived Publications

The journal aims to maintain open and continuous access to its published articles in accordance with its open-access policy and applicable licensing terms. Digital preservation is intended to support the continued availability and citation of published research, including when changes occur in the journal's website, hosting provider, or publishing platform.

Where technical circumstances temporarily disrupt access, the journal will make reasonable efforts to restore the affected content as soon as practicable.

6. Responsibilities and Periodic Review

The journal's management and designated technical personnel are responsible for overseeing the implementation of appropriate digital archiving and preservation measures. These responsibilities may include monitoring the availability of published content, coordinating backups, maintaining technical documentation, and reviewing preservation arrangements periodically.

This policy will be reviewed when necessary to reflect changes in publishing technology, digital preservation standards, infrastructure, and the journal's operational capabilities.

7. Commitment to the Scholarly Record

Al-Ibrah: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Keilmuan Islam recognizes the preservation of scholarly publications as an important responsibility of academic publishing. Through appropriate archiving practices, technical safeguards, and transparent preservation arrangements, the journal seeks to protect the integrity of its published content and support its long-term availability for researchers, educators, students, and the wider academic community.
